“個展によせて” 金井田英津子
装画挿絵の仕事は、いつも私にイメージを想起する楽しみを与えてくれます。
今回は、2006年から現在までの約50点の原画を、短く切りとったテキストやコメントとともに展示しました。
原画から、もう一度テキストを振り返ることにより、イメージの来し方を明らかにし、両者の「間合い」に生起する諸問題、解釈や方向性、視座の在処や距離感についての考えを深めていくきっかけになればと思っています。

文学作品に寄り添い、対峙しながら、さまざまな近代日本文学の世界を版画の技法を用いた装幀挿画で現した「画本」を手掛けている、金井田英津子。本展ではアクリル絵の具のスクラッチによる原画(版)約50点を展示いたします。
金井田英津子は1985年よりCWAJ現代版画展に作品の出品を始める。以降、国内での個展や、クラコフ国際版画トリエンナーレ、マストリヒト国際グラフィックビエンナーレなどの国際的な版画展で、コンスタントに版画作品を発表。同時に、装幀挿画を積極的に手がけている。
1995年、萩原朔太郎の小説「猫町」をテーマにした個展「猫町紀行」を開催する。この個展が縁で、近代日本文学を版画の技法を用いながら「画本」にする活動を始める。1997年に刊行した萩原朔太郎『猫町』が好評を得る。
文学と版画が融合した画本は、読書の新しい楽しみ方を提供し、『猫町』以降も、夏目漱石『夢十夜』、内田百間『冥途』を刊行する。2004年に出版された長谷川摂子著『人形の旅立ち』の装幀挿画に携わる。この作品で、「赤い鳥挿し絵賞」と「造本装幀コンクール審査員奨励賞」を受賞する。
2006年には金井田の画本を元に動きを与え、町田康の朗読、オリジナルの音楽をプラスした「画ニメ」DVD『猫町』が制作される。
また、近年では近代文学と共に昔話や児童文学の装画を数多く手掛けている。

Etsuko Kanaida is a printmaker producing illustrated books, with profound understanding of literary works. The present exhibition presents about 50 artworks created by scratching with acrylic paint.
Kanaida started entering the CWAJ print show from 1985. Since then, she continuously releases her works domestically and internationally, e.g., in International Print Triennial in Krakow and International Graphics Biennial Competition in Maastricht, while being an active illustrator for novels, folklores and fairy tales.
After holding a solo exhibition in 1995 featuring a novel “Nekomachi” by Sakutaro Hagiwara, Kanaida started producing illustrated books of modern Japanese literature works. “Nekomachi” with Kanaida’s print works, published in 1997, is highly acclaimed.
Kanaida’s illustrated books also include “Yume Juya (Ten Nights of Dreams)” by Soseki Natsume, “Meido (Realm of the Dead)” by Hyakken Uchida. Her illustration work for “Ningyo No Tabidachi” published in 2004 by Setsuko Hasegawa won two prestigious prizes.
In 2006, an animated version of “Nekomachi” came out on DVD.
