平川恒太 “Talk to the silence”

■　対話イベント：『黒く染められたバラのゆくへ ― ４日間の小さな対話』（希望者参加型）
11月25日〜28日の４日間、展覧会場にて作者の平川恒太が来館者との対話に応じます。出展作品についてや、政治、宗教、音楽、愛、美術どんな対話にも応じます。

　平川恒太は、2013年に東京芸術大学 絵画専攻 修士課程修了後、森美術館で開催された「カタストロフと美術のちから」（2018）や「さいたま国際芸術祭2020」などの展覧会に参加してきました。
　本展では、カスヤの森現代美術館が教会をイメージして建てられていることに着目し祭壇画などのキリスト教美術からのイメージや手法を用いながら、平川が予てより取り組む「記憶のケイショウ」をテーマに新作を発表します。「ケイショウ」とは「継承、警鐘、形象」など複数の意味をもちます。本展では、私たちの記憶から失われていく歴史に、リサーチを通して対話するように制作された作品によって展覧会が構成されます。

　主な出展作品として、従軍記章を用いたシリーズ『何光年も旅した星々の光は私たちの記憶を繋ぎ星座を描く』の新作のインスタレーションや、日本の永久貸与の戦争画を黒一色で模写をしたシリーズ『Trinitite』、振り子時計を用いた新シリーズ『The Bells』、石棺の新作『sarcophagus』などを発表します。

『Trinitite』

本シリーズは第二次世界大戦時に日本軍の指示により藤田嗣治や宮本三郎といった日本の大家達が描いた戦争画を原寸のサイズで黒一色を用い模写をしています。 黒という、描くのも見るのも困難な絵の具を何層にも重ね、失われて行く戦争の記憶を当時の画家の身体感覚や感情などを追体験することで描き出そうとしています。見えない歴史に向き合いながら描き出すその行為は、現代の私たちの歴史との向き合い方によく似ています。 タイトルの「Trinitite」とは人類最初の原爆実験の際に生成された人工鉱物に由来しています。それは私が初めてこの鉱物と広島で出会った際に、この鉱物の背景を知らず美しいと思うが、すぐにこの鉱物が生成された背景を知り、そこに死の記憶を感じた経験からつけられています。 本作品も美しい絵画の裏に死の記憶を隠しています。

After completion of the Master’s course in painting at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2013, Kota Hirakawa has participated in exhibitions including “Catastrophe and the Power of Art” (Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, 2018), “Art Sightama” (Saitama, 2020).

In the present exhibition at Museum Haus Kasuya built in the image of church architecture, Hirakawa presents new works inspired by, and in the style of, the Christian art such as altarpieces. The theme on which he works is KEISHO of memory (KEISHO having multiple meanings including inheritance, warning, figure, etc.) Hirakawa produces the artworks for this exhibition through conversation with the history fading from our memory.

Introduced in this exhibition are, among others, a new installation work from the series “the star lights traveled for many light years connect our memories and draw constellations” featuring service medals; the “Trinitite” series produced by copying the permanently donated Japanese war art with black color only; the new series titled “The Bells” featuring a pendulum clock; and a brand-new artwork “sarcophagus”.

” Trinitite “

In this series I endeavor to paint in only black color the war art painted by famous japanese modern painters [Tuguharu Fujita, Ryohei Koiso, Saburo Miyamoto,etc.] during World War II.
In Japan it has been a forbidden subject up to date that to be open the war art to the public in museums of Japan.
Is it to forget the history of one’s own war ?

This tendency is often seen not only in art education but also in various educational scenes of Japan.
I gave the difficulty of facing painting through the process of to paint the images with many times of glazing the black layers and explained the difficulty of facing their own history through the act of seeing painting.
The sizes of these works are accurately adjusted to the size of the originals [the war art ].

This is because I aim to feel the physical of the painters of the day and to inherit the memory that must not be forgot.
