　70年代より画家としの活動を始めた中上氏は、現代作家の旗手として国際展を含む数々の展覧会に参加。その評価を確固たるものとして来ました。

　2008年に神奈川県立近代美術館で開催された回顧展形式の個展では、各作品の精度の高さと年代ごとに変化し、その表現が研ぎ澄まされて行く様が再認識されました。
　近年では、ニューヨーク、パリのギャラリーで新作を発表するなど海外からの期待も高く、今後の活動にも注目が集まっています。

　中上氏の作品を前にして、その多くの人は画面にたち現れる幽玄な光に魅了され、しばし佇む。
　そして眼前の光源について思考を巡らす。それは何時か見た光景か、あるいは突然現れた美しい幻想か。画面には大きく広がる闇があり、静かにうねる闇の中で人は確かな光を求め始める。
　闇こそが光を必要とし、見る者がそれを望む。中上氏は巧みな表現で光を操り、我々を新しい世界の入口へと誘う。それは、あたかも次の始まりの瞬間を告げる光のように。

KIYOSHI NAKAGAMI　”Painting”

Nakagami started his career as a painter in 70s and has built a strong reputation as a leading contemporary artist as he participated in various exhibitions including international prizes.

In his retrospective exhibition held at The Museum of Modern Art, Hayama & Kamakura in 2008, high precision and sophistication over decades of his works were widely recognized.
As he recently introduced his new works in galleries in New York and in Paris recently, he has started attracting international attention.

Viewers will be enchanted by light emerging from Nakagami’s works and stay immobilized.
They will then ask themselves – whether it is a scene they have already seen or beautiful phantasmagoria appearing suddenly.
Darkness occupies a greater part of a Nakagami’s work, and makes viewers begin to seek light.
Nakagami is a master of light who invites us to a gateway to a brand new world.
