カスヤの森現代美術館では、1994年の開館当初より戦後美術を語る上で欠くことの出来ない作家としてヨーゼフ・ボイスの作品を常設展示に加え個人コレクターとの共催等により企画展としても繰り返し紹介してまいりました。ヨーゼフ・ボイスは「社会彫刻」と呼ばれる社会の中に機能する芸術の概念を生み出し、60年代以降のアートシーンに多大な影響を与えると共にその作品やアクションを通し、政治、経済、環境という社会的な問題について様々なメッセージを発信し続ける事で従来の近代美術を克服し20世紀を代表する作家の一人です。
今年に入りドイツで制作されたドキュメンタリー映画（2016年制作）が公開されるなど、没後30年を超えてなお、その存在は薄れること無く多くの人々の注目を集め、影響を与え続けています。そして、作品を通して語られるメッセージは、芸術に関わる特別な人だけに向けられたものでは無く、すべての人に対しての問いかけであり、時間を超えて繰り返し想起されるべき価値を有すると考えます。
展示内容として
2014年9月に24年間の活動を終え閉館した清里現代美術館。現代美術に関わる数々の貴重な作品や膨大な資料などを所蔵されていました。閉館後、残されたコレクションの中から昨年、ヨーゼフ・ボイスの26作品、約40点を当館が引き継ぎ収蔵、既存のコレクションと合わせて本展で公開いたします。
また、当館のアーカイブよりボイスに関連する映像資料（ギャラリー・トークやスライド）などを合わせて展観いたします。

JOSEPH BEUYS
Museum Haus Kasuya owns artworks of Joseph Beuys, an irreplaceable artist in the modern art history, in the permanent collection since its opening in 1994. We also has held exhibitions in collaboration with private collectors. Joseph Beuys developed a concept of “social sculpture”, the art that functions in society, and significantly influenced the art scene of 60s and later. Beuys, who has overcome the conventional modern art through artworks and actions on politics, economics, and environmental issues, is undoubtedly one of the representative artists of the 20th century.
His influence to this day is proven by, among others, release of a documentary film on Beuys (Germany, 2016) in Japan. His messages, directed not only at art fans and critics, but at all the modern people, are worth recalling over and over.
Regarding the Exhibition
Kiyosato Museum of Contemporary Art, which ceased its operations in September 2014, had an enormous collection of valuable artworks and documents. After its closing, 26 artworks of Joseph Beuys were inherited by Museum Haus Kasuya. In this exhibition, these new additions to our collection are presented along with previously acquired pieces. Video materials regarding Beuys (including his gallery talk and slides) from our archives are also exhibited.
