写真家、中村ハルコとその作品についてパートナーである下館和巳氏(シェークスピアカンパニー主宰、東北学院大学教授 )と本展アートディレクターの高橋淳子氏(キヤノン 写真新世紀担当)のお二人にそれぞれの視点から語っていただきます。

「光の音 Part Ⅱ- echo」
写真家 中村ハルコは、イタリア・トスカーナに魅了され、1993年から1998年の間、多い時には１年に7回も通うほど情熱を注ぎ、現地の写真を撮り続けました。
広大な大地の中、古式ゆかしい暮らしを営む老夫婦イヴォとイルダ、その家族たちとの出会いを通し、優しく熱いドラマチックな人間関係を、ゆるやかな映像ともいえるような写真表現で、美しくダイナミックに記録したのが写真集「光の音-pure and simple」（2008年）です。この写真集には季節を巡る雄大な景観はもとより、時空の流れ、温度差までをも大胆にカメラでとらえようと、野山を駆け巡る中村の初々しい痕跡が残されています。
今回、カスヤの森現代美術館では、「光の音」第二段とし、待望の未発表作品を展示します。前作に収められた写真の、前後のショットを予感させる、 ”もう一つの瞬間”を記録した「光の音 パートⅡ-echo」。
新型コロナウィルス、パンデミックから国際的な往来が大幅に減少、人と人との距離を取らざるを得ない状況が続いた昨今、中村の写真には、イタリアの大地に根付き、支え合って生きる人々の普遍的な日常、家族と対話する喜びの瞬間が刻まれています。これらの写真は、生命体として健やかに生きること、自然に呼吸する幸せ、そして、宇宙と共鳴しつながっている神秘を思い出させます。
享年43才という短い生涯の中で、夢中になって取り組んだ写真の数々。彼女にしか撮れなかった「光の音 パートⅡ-echo」に出会いに、カスヤの森現代美術館にどうぞお出かけください。
高橋淳子 / 本展アート・ディレクター
若手写真作家の登竜門として評価され、長きにわたり開催されてきたキヤノンの「写真新世紀」。その初めからキャノンの社員として携わってきた高橋淳子を本展のアート・ディレクターとして迎え、中村ハルコの写真作品をご紹介します。（高橋淳子は2008年に出版された写真集、中村ハルコ「光の音」でもアート・ディレクターとして携わっている）

Haruko Nakamura “The Sound of Light Part Ⅱ- echo”
Fascinated by Tuscany, Italy, Haruko Nakamura took the photographs of the region from 1993 to 1998 with enthusiasm, making as many as seven visits in a year.
Through an encounter with a family of Ivo and Ilda who led a traditional life in the vast land, Nakamura beautifully and dynamically captured their gentle and passionate relationship in a photographic expression resembling to a slow video, resulting in a photo collection “The Sound of Light – pure and simple” (2008). This photo collection retains traces of Nakamura running through the mountains, audaciously trying to capture not only the magnificent scenery across seasons, but also the flow of time and varying temperatures.
In this exhibition at Museum Haus Kasuya, long-awaited unpublished works of Nakamura are presented as “The Sound of Light” Part II. “The Sound of Light Part Ⅱ- echo” is another moment from the production of the previous collection.
In the present time where international travel is greatly reduced and there is a larger distance between people due to the outbreak of COVID-19, Nakamura’s works appeal to us with a joy of everyday life in family rooted in the land of Italy. These photographs remind us of a sound way of living, the delight of breathing in the nature, and the mystery of resonance and connection with the universe.
Please come and enjoy “The Sound of Light Part Ⅱ- echo”, a collection of works which could only be created by Haruko Nakamura in her short life of 43 years.

We welcomed Junko Takahashi, who has long been involved in Canon New Cosmos of Photography, a gateway for young photographers, and worked as art director of “The Sound of Light” (2008) by Haruko Nakamura. Takahashi introduces works of Nakamura as art director of the exhibition.
