Since our opening
in 1994, we have been introducing international and domestic
artworks. On our 25th anniversary, we are holding exhibitions
featuring up-and-coming Japanese artists throughout this year.
Kazuna Taguchi and Chihiro Mori were
elected by O JUN (Professor at Tokyo University of the Art)
to exhibit at our museum on the occasion of "Attempt"
exhibitions (2007 and 2011). Tagichi, who is currently based
in Vienna, was featured in Yokohama Triennale 2011: OUR MAGIC
HOUR. Mori is highly appreciated for her solo exhibition "OMOIDE
IN MY HEAD" (2017, Toyota Municipal Museum of Art) and
featured in "In Focus: Contemporary Japan" (2018,
Minneapolis Institute of Arts). The present exhibition also
features Yuki Kimura, an emerging artist based in Berlin,
who has participated in 30th Bienal de Sao Paulo (2012) and
"OCEAN OF IMAGES: NEW PHOTOGRAPHY 2015" (MoMA, 2015).
These three are
of the same generation and have started their career in
their early 20s. This is the first time for them to join
in a group exhibition, in answer to our invitation, and
must be a good opportunity for modern art enthusiast to
make new discoveries about them.
We hope this first exhibition in
Reiwa era would be an overview of the past and furture of
these young artists.
